چکیده
Systematic studies of the phase and density dependence of the delayed annihilation time spectra of antiprotons (DATS) in gaseous, liquid and solid helium have been performed using the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at CERN. The results show a small but signiicant dependence of DATS on the phase and density of the helium medium. The average lifetime of antiprotons (T av) in gas at 10-30 K was found to be 4.03 0.02 s. In liquid helium T av decreases with density from 3.0 s at 1 bar to 2.5 s at 60 bar, while in solid helium its value is 2.14 0.03 s, 20 % shorter than that in liquid helium of the same density. There is no change of DATS between normal 1-bar liquid and superruid helium. An isotope eeect between 4 He and 3 He similar to the one previously observed in the gas phase has also been found for liquid helium. All the data can be tted fairly well with a simple three-level chain decay model which describes the general structure of DATS, characterized by downward curving behavior on a logarithmic scale at later times and by the presence of a short-lived component. No delayed annihilation was observed in lithium.

Laser spectroscopic studies of state-dependent collisional quenching of the lifetimes of metastable antiprotonic helium atoms
A laser spectroscopic method was developed to directly observe the lifetimes of individual states in metastable antiprotonic helium atoms ( p̄ He). Collisional effects with surrounding helium atoms were studied in cryogenic gas targets at pressures between 0.1 and 9.0 bars and at temperatures between 5.5 and 7.0 K. The metastable state (n ,l )5(39,35) showed a lifetime of 1.5 ms, regardless of d...
متن کاملAuger–dominant metastable states in the antiprotonic helium atom
Auger dominant metastable states in the antiprotonic helium atoms are studied by using the Complex Coordinate Rotation method. Relativistic corrections for the bound electron related to the Breit interaction have been calculated using CCR wave functions. Higher order relativistic and QED effects have been included into consideration to get precise theoretical values for transition frequencies.
متن کاملObservation of cold, long-lived antiprotonic helium ions.
Cold, two-body antiprotonic helium ions p 4He2+ and p 3He2+ with 100-ns-scale lifetimes, occupying circular states with the quantum numbers ni=28-32 and li=ni-1 have been observed. They were produced by cooling three-body antiprotonic helium atoms in an ultra-low-density helium target at temperature T approximately 10 K by atomic collisions, and then removing their electrons by inducing a laser...
متن کاملSpectroscopy of antiprotonic helium atoms and its contribution to the fundamental physical constants
Antiprotonic helium atom, a metastable neutral system consisting of an antiproton, an electron and a helium nucleus, was serendipitously discovered, and has been studied at CERN's antiproton decelerator facility. Its transition frequencies have recently been measured to nine digits of precision by laser spectroscopy. By comparing these experimental results with three-body QED calculations, the ...

This article describes an accurate subPico flowmeter bifurcatedin to liquid and gas flowrates less than 1mol/s for both MEMS/NEMS and cryogenic technology applications. The MEMS/NEMS are described as either two Gauges (instrument), or quartz fluctuating forks, even if the liquid or gas flows through an element, as well as cryogenic technology consisting of arrays of e...
